- Swiss-made and sold with a complete exploded parts diagram — every blade, spring, and bolt is individually replaceable and stocked. Professional growers rebuild these rather than replace them, which is only possible because the company keeps supplying parts.
- Gilmour
- A long-established American watering brand, now part of the Fiskars group. Its metal fittings are the standard reference point in a category otherwise dominated by plastic.
- Corona Tools
- Began making tools for the Southern Californian citrus groves it is named after and still supplies commercial growers. Nearly a century of continuous trading under the same name.
What the junk alternatives look like
Generic garden brands sell bundles: pruners with gloves and a kneeling pad, in a canvas bag. The steel will be unspecified, the pivot bolt riveted rather than threaded so it cannot be tightened, and the listing will call it "professional" and "heavy duty" without saying what it is made from. Hose fittings are worse, because plastic threaded into brass strips on the second season. The test is whether you can buy a replacement part. For every tool below you can.
