Privacy Policy

M5 Software Solutions LLC ("we", "our") operates RealBrand - Amazon Fake Brand Filter ("the extension") for Chrome and Firefox, including Firefox for Android. This policy explains exactly what the extension sends and stores.

The extension makes exactly these kinds of network requests, and no others:

1. Brand list download (read-only)
2. Config download (read-only)
3. Brand reports you click to send (optional; sent only when you click to send one)

It also stores your settings with your browser's own storage (see "Your settings"), and adds our Amazon affiliate tag to Amazon product links (see "Affiliate tag").

1. Brand list download

The extension downloads our public list of known brands and brand aliases from our database host (Supabase, etkcwlepiiltlanstrdc.supabase.co, tables brands, brand_aliases and sync_metadata). It checks for a newer version at most once an hour (after a failed check, it waits at least 5 minutes before trying again) and keeps a copy on your device.

• The request asks for the brand list. It contains nothing about you, your searches or the pages you visit.
• A copy of the list (5,600+ brands) is also built into the extension, so it works before the first download.

2. Config download

When you open an Amazon search, at most once an hour, and when the browser or extension starts, the extension reads one public setting from the same host (table app_config): which Amazon affiliate tag, if any, to use on each Amazon site. The request contains nothing about you.

Like any web request, requests 1 and 2 reach the host's servers with the usual network details (such as your IP address and browser version). We add nothing to them that identifies you, and we don't use those details to track anyone.

3. Brand reports you click to send (optional)

If RealBrand can't find a brand on a listing, or you think a verdict is wrong, you can send a report with one click. A report is sent only when you click to send one. On Firefox you first grant the browser's optional data-collection permission (Settings → Brand Reports, "Allow anonymous brand reports"). On Chrome reports are allowed by default, and you can switch them off with the same setting. Nothing is ever sent automatically.

A report contains exactly these fields:

A report does not contain your search, the page address, your Amazon account, cookies, or any identifier. Reports are stored in our database (extraction_reports) and used only to improve brand detection and the brand list. They cannot be read back through the extension.

4. Your settings (stored by your browser)

Your settings (preset and switches) and your trusted and blocked brand lists are saved with the browser's storage.sync. If you use your browser's sync (Chrome sync, Firefox Sync), the browser copies them to your other browsers. That is handled by your browser vendor; we never receive them. A backup of your brand lists is also kept in this browser's local storage.

Also kept only on this device (storage.local), never sent anywhere:

• the downloaded brand list and config
• running totals for the popup (listings hidden, searches cleaned, and the product IDs counted today so a listing isn't counted twice)
• the Amazon site of your last search (so "Try a search" links go to your site)
• whether the review request was shown

"Reset to Defaults" in Settings resets your settings (and, only if you tick the box, clears your brand lists). Uninstalling the extension removes everything it stored on the device.

5. Affiliate tag

RealBrand adds our Amazon Associates tag to Amazon product links on the search page. Prices are the same; Amazon pays us a small commission on qualifying purchases, which funds development.

• On amazon.com the tag is realbrand00-20. Other Amazon sites are left untagged unless we configure a tag for that site (via the config download above).
• A link that already carries a tag is never changed.
• We don't see what you click or buy: Amazon reports only aggregate sales to Associates.
• You can turn it off at any time: Settings, "Support Development", "Affiliate Links".

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

Our database is hosted by Supabase. Their privacy policy applies to data stored on their servers.

8. Children's privacy

RealBrand is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.

We will update the "Last Updated" date and describe significant changes in the release notes.
